Dr. Jason Roedig answers, “Am I too old for braces?”

While it is commonplace for many people to get braces in their youth, braces can be a solution for adults too. No one who wants to improve the look of their teeth is too old for braces. Any orthodontic work that helps people achieve their goals can be an option.

Dr. Jason Roedig explains that braces are not just for children. While the American Association of Orthodontics does recommend that children start seeing an orthodontist at age 7, it doesn’t mean an adult is too late if orthodontic work would be beneficial. It is possible to start improving your smile at any age!

In recent years, more and more adults are choosing orthodontic improvement. This is in part due to the aesthetic options available now. Many adults do not want the traditional metal bracket braces. They are more noticeable and most adults are not interested in changing their rubber band colors.

Adults may rather choose one of these options:

  • Clear ceramic braces: These blend in with the teeth nicely. Ceramic braces attach to the teeth like metal brackets and utilize rubber bands. They are not removable until treatment is complete.
  • Invisalign: These are clear retainers that help to move the teeth into place. Invisalign is a removable orthodontic improvement option. A 3D model of the patient’s teeth will be taken. Each patient will get a custom course of treatment to move the teeth while not sacrificing aesthetics.

Studies show that the first thing a person notices about another is their smile and their teeth. Have clean, straight teeth improves a person’s appearance immensely.
