Back to School Checklist

Back to School Dental Checklist

It’s the beginning of a new school year (whoop whoop!), which means the never-ending to-do list of academia and parenting combine into one impossible, stress filled agenda! (“More like a piece of cake” – Mom)

We know that can be stressful, and you know what, we’re here to help! So, we’ve composed a back to school checklist you can sink your teeth into! Most people who have children in school know this run-down like the back of their hands, but you’d be surprised how much gets forgotten until the last minute. So, please enjoy our “Not So In-Depth, Super Important Back to School Checklist”! We’re obviously going to start with the most important check-up of the school year, your dental check-ups!

Why Should a Dental Check-Up Be at The Top of My List?

1. Dental Problems is the Number One Reason Kids Miss School

That sounds crazy, right?! Unfortunately, more than 51 million school hours are lost each year because of illness related to dental health. Childhood tooth decay is the number one chronic childhood illness.

Not to mention pediatric dental disease is seven times more common than hay fever and five times more common than asthma. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey said 41% of children 2 to 11 had cavities in their primary teeth. In addition, 42% of children 6 to 19 had cavities in their permanent teeth. Think about how much time and money you will save if you catch dental health issues early on!

2. Catch Those Problems Early On

When you get a cleaning at your dental office, an exam to check for any issues will be performed. Catching problems early will help prevent your child complaining of a toothache later on. It will also help prevent missing school due to dental issues.

3. Get That Mouth Guard Fitted Right (Protect Your Investment)

Kids are extremely involved in after school sports and activities. It’s good to be active, but did you know dental injuries are some of the most common sports injuries for kids, teens and college students? Mouth guards will help protect teeth from sports related injuries. Getting a custom fit mouth guard designed specifically for your child’s mouth will ensure the best protection.

Now that you know why a back to school checkup is important for a healthy smile and to start off the school year, what else do you need?
